An Enterprise Leader in the Delivery of Strategic Technology Solutions

On April 16th, TaskRabbit, a handyman-for-hire app informed its users of a cyberattack that potentially put their personal data in harm’s way. They followed this announcement by immediately taking down their website and app while the investigation ensued. TaskRabbit urged users who may have used the same password for multiple websites to immediately change other account credentials.

On April 18th, the website and app were back up and running. In a letter from their CEO to the TaskRabbit community, she explained that while the investigation is still underway, evidence shows that “an unauthorized user” gained access to their systems. She goes on to say that, “As a result, personally identifiable information may have been compromised.”

TaskRabbit is working with an outside cybersecurity firm and law enforcement to determine exactly what information was compromised, and who was affected. Being that their app is used to connect people, it’s very likely that strong personal data—possibly even payment data—was compromised.

This incident sparked the enhancement of their security systems. TaskRabbit assures its users that they plan to:

·        Identify ways to increase the security of their login system

·        Evaluate their data retention processes

·        Examine their overall network cyber threat detection technology

In the meantime, they continue to encourage their users to change any passwords that are similar to the one used for their TaskRabbit account. The letter made it clear their main focus is regaining the trust of their workforce and clientele. And they assured the community they’ll be hearing from TaskRabbit again with more updates.
